Covered Outdoor Space Across the Fraser Valley
Glass Canopies
& Pergola Glass
Glass roofs and canopy panels for pergolas, covered patios, and outdoor structures. Commercial-grade aluminum and tempered glass, residential install — built to keep your backyard usable through Fraser Valley winters.
Why Glass Canopies
Why People Cover Their Patios With Glass
If you’ve got a pergola, a covered patio, or a backyard outdoor structure — built or being built — and you want a glass roof to go on top, you’re in the right place. Here’s what we install, how the project flows, and how to get a quote.
Location
The Fraser Valley has roughly half a year of rain. That’s roughly half a year you can’t fully use a deck, a patio, or a backyard outdoor space — unless something’s covering it.
Protection With a View
A glass canopy keeps the rain off without closing the space in. You still see the sky. You still get the light. You still see the trees, the mountains, the view that made you build the deck in the first place. A solid roof would close all of that down. A tarp or pergola alone doesn’t keep the rain off.
Pergolas, Patios, and Outdoor Rooms
Where Glass Canopies Go
Pergolas
Timber-frame structures in residential backyards — the most common application. The structure goes up, then we install the glass top.
Covered patios
Existing covered structures that need a glass roof retrofit, or new builds where glass is part of the original design.
Gazebos and outdoor rooms
Standalone structures with glass overhead.
Walkways and entry covers
Glass canopies over residential entries or commercial walkways.
Restaurant and hospitality patios
Light commercial work — outdoor dining areas extended into shoulder-season use.
The Materials Matter
Commercial-Grade Materials in a Residential Setting
A glass roof has to do two things over its lifetime: keep water out, and keep itself up. Both demand serious materials.
Aluminum framing from Aluminex
The framing system holding the glass uses commercial-grade aluminum extrusions — the same product class going onto restaurant patios and commercial walkway covers.
Tempered or laminated safety glass
Overhead glass installations require safety glass. We install tempered glass for most residential canopies and laminated glass where extra security is warranted (commercial sites, large spans, or where falling-glass protection is a concern).
Flashings, gaskets, and slope
The flashings, gaskets, and slope details are what determine whether a glass canopy actually keeps water out — or just pushes it somewhere else. We install with that in mind.
What we design
For most residential glass canopy projects, the structure (timber posts, beams, framing) is built by a carpenter, deck builder, or general contractor. We design the glass and aluminum cover that goes on top: spans, panel sizes, slope, drainage, and how the system attaches to the structure below. We work directly with your builder, or can point you to one if you don’t have one yet.
Our Canopy Work
Why People Bring Their Pergola Project to Us
Commercial materials, residential job
The aluminum and glass going on your pergola is the same product class going onto restaurant patios.
We coordinate with your builder
You don’t have to be the project manager between three trades. We talk to your deck builder or carpenter directly.
Fraser Valley climate first
We design and install for the weather that’s actually going to hit the canopy — wet winters, the occasional snow load, summer sun.
The Process
How a Glass Canopy Project Goes — Design, Coordinate, Install
Quote
Send photos, rough dimensions, and a description of the existing or planned structure.
Design consultation
We work through panel sizes, slope, drainage, and how the system attaches.
Coordinate with the structure builder
If a carpenter or deck builder is framing the pergola, we coordinate timing and attachment details with them.
Fabricate
Aluminum framing and tempered/laminated glass cut to spec.
Install
Our crew handles the install on top of the completed structure.
Warranty
Workmanship warranty on the install; manufacturer warranties on system components.

We supply and install the glass and aluminum canopy system — the roof itself. The structural framing (timber posts, beams) is typically built by a carpenter, deck builder, or general contractor. We coordinate with your builder on attachment details and timing, and can point you toward a builder if you don't have one yet.
-
It depends on the span, load, and your local building requirements. For larger or more ambitious spans, engineering may be required before installation. We'll tell you during the design consultation whether your project needs engineering — and at what point in the process to get it done. [NEEDS CLIENT INPUT — confirm threshold at which engineering is required.]
-
Well. We design and install specifically for the Fraser Valley climate — wet winters, occasional snow loads, and summer sun. The aluminum framing and tempered or laminated glass we use are the same product class going onto commercial walkway covers and restaurant patios. Proper flashings, gaskets, and drainage slope are part of every install.
-
Both are safety glass and both are used in canopy applications. Tempered is the standard for most residential pergola tops. Laminated is used where extra protection is warranted — commercial sites, large spans, or locations where falling glass would be a concern. We'll spec the right one for your project during the design consultation.
-
Either works. We can retrofit a glass roof onto an existing covered structure, or work with a builder on a new build where the glass is part of the original design. Send us photos of the existing structure and we'll assess whether it's suitable for a glass top.
-
A properly installed glass canopy is low maintenance for years. The main ongoing task is periodic inspection of the seals and gaskets — the aluminum and glass themselves don't degrade under normal Fraser Valley conditions. We'll point out what to check and when during the post-install walkthrough.
-
Yes. Drainage slope, flashings, and gaskets are part of our install — not an afterthought. Getting those details right is what determines whether a glass canopy keeps water out long-term or just pushes it somewhere else.

What Clients Are Saying
Is This For You?
Working With Riverside on Glass Canopies Is a Good Fit If…
A glass canopy is a more custom piece of work than a standard window or mirror install. It needs the right structure, hardware, glazing, and coordination with the rest of the build, so it helps to bring in a glass shop that knows how to work alongside builders and plan the details properly.
-
You've got a pergola, covered patio, or outdoor structure — built or being built — and you want a glass roof on top
-
You want commercial-grade aluminum and tempered/laminated glass
-
You'd rather coordinate one glass shop with your deck builder than try to spec the whole system yourself
